Ice caves and Kayaking
Last weekend we set out to explore ice-caves in the middle of summer.
Impossible? Not if you know where to look. These natural wonders are phenomenal and incredibly beautiful. In the 90 degrees heat we hiked to the top of the mountains through rocky trails in east side of WA. As you walk within 30 feet of the icecaves, the temperature drops to freezing...and what a relief after a hot day's hike.

As you see in the pictures, they are pretty amazing.

On the next day, I set out to try out our kayaks (1 tandem, 1 single).

Our friend was visiting so she paddled the single one, and me Blanka and Artie fit comfortably on the tandem one.

We drove less than 1.5 hr from home but to lesser-known area near Sultan. This is fisherman's paradise and the road isn't marked. After a few miles of offroad driving we reached the clear, turquoise waters of this 700+ acres lake.

Surrounded by glaciers, green mountains (they turn white in winter of course), and islands...it looks like it could be anywhere from Hawaii to South America. Amazing place---so close by! We did go back and we'll be back for more.
